About Our Dry Eye Center
The Dry Eye Center for Puerto Rico - founded by Dr. Ernesto Collazo - has become the premier center in Puerto Rico for the treatment of dry eye and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) incorporating the latest and only FDA approved photo-regeneration treatments for MGD / Dry eye - the Lumenis Optilight Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) System and the Celluma Low Level Light Therapy Device (LLLT).

Dr. Collazo was one of the first ophthalmologists in the United States to combine the IPL treatment with red and blue Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) - a combination that has recently been shown in a clinical study by the National Institute of Health to provide better results than either IPL or LLLT alone.

Your first dry eye consult visit with us will be unlike any other you’ve had. We invest in the latest generation of testing technology and strive to always stay at the cutting edge. Dr. Collazo is a consultant/medical advisor for many of the companies that develop these technologies including Lumenis, Alcon, Allergan, LKC Technologies, and others.

What to expect
Our commitment to providing the most advanced care starts with precise diagnostics, including evaluating the meibomian glands, for meibomian gland dysfunction or MGD. This is the cause of 88% of all dry eye and requires specific treatment using light based technologies.
Your dry eye evaluation will include:
Meibography
Capturing detailed infrared images of the meibomian glands to aid diagnosis and treatment planning.
Tear Osmolarity
Measuring the balance of tear components to understand the osmotic state of the tears.
Tear Breakup Time
Determining how long it takes for your tears to start drying up, influencing the choice of interventions.
Corneal Topography
Mapping the cornea's surface for a comprehensive understanding of how your eye's tear film affects your vision.
Tear Meniscus Height
The tear meniscus is a small strip of tear fluid that accumulates at the lower edge of the eyelids. Measuring its height provides insights into the volume of tear fluid present.
